Recession Beats!!!!

So even though DJ Cannon Banyon and I aren't gonna put out any beat cd's for a while I still feel like giving out some free beats. I'm not gonna say I'll do it every week or anything. There won't really be a schedule to it. It will all be based off how I'm feeling, and right about now I feel like giving you a free beat. If you want to add it to your ipod or if you want to rap to it, its all fine with me. So here you go...the first of the Recession Beats

Happy Juneteenth!!!

I still run into folks that don't know about Juneteenth. I myself have known about it for about 5 maybe 6 years. Each One Teach One.

Though the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863, it had minimal immediate effect on most slaves’ day-to-day lives, particularly in Texas, which was almost entirely under Confederate control. Texas was resistant to the Emancipation Proclamation, and though slavery was very prevalent in East Texas, it was not as common in the Western areas of Texas, particularly the Hill Country, where most German-Americans were opposed to the practice. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves. Legend has it while standing on the balcony of Galveston’s Ashton Villa, Granger read the contents of “General Order No. 3”:

The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.[10]

That day has since become known as Juneteenth, a name derived from a portmanteau of the words June and nineteenth.

Former slaves in Galveston rejoiced in the streets with jubilant celebrations. Juneteenth celebrations began in Texas the following year.[10] Across many parts of Texas, freed people pooled their funds to purchase land specifically for their communities’ increasingly large Juneteenth gatherings — including Houston’s Emancipation Park, Mexia’s Booker T. Washington Park, and Emancipation Park in Austin.[10] Juneteenth celebrations include a wide range of festivities, such as parades, street fairs, cookouts, or park parties and include such things as music and dancing or even contests of physical strength and intellect. Baseball and other popular American games may also be played.

Open Mike's Toast It Or Post It. Part 1

TOAST IT AND POST IT INSTALLMENT #1

DAY AND NIGHT

Afternoon Patrons and welcome to the 1st installment of Toast it and Post It. A nice and fulfilling way to start your day! As hip-hop aficionados, we need to make sure we have all the essentials for a great breakfast. Substance. Flavor. You know.. something that will stick to your ribs! So, I give you Toast it and Post It. My little idea to make sure that you don’t go missing out on that good stuff.

So here’s the deal (and it’s quite simple to be honest...):

1. We Pick a Beat. Sometimes I’ll pick one of my personal favorites. Sometimes someone will suggest one. Sometimes (when I have the following to make it happen) you’ll pick one for me.

2. We Toast the Beat. I lay some fire (as they say) on the track. Whatever I’m feeling that day. It might be deep and insightful. Other times, I might sound like the mad rapper. We ALL get angry! And ere now and then, I’ll just give you some heat. We’ll switch it up. You know.. keep it interesting. If you’re like me you won’t want the SAME OLD SAME OLD every time we do this... Oh... and I’ll also do a lot of collaborations. I’m a pretty decent MC if I do say so myself, but I am also a fan. Expect some surprises....

3. We Post the Beat. I post the beat to your favorite social media site! Look for it everywhere. Pass it on to friends! I’m nothing without the people! I’ll also include a reference to the original artist on the post and a little about the production. Get it? We here some new twists on your favorites, you might GAIN a new favorite, you’ll get schooled a bit to some part of the culture you might not be familiar with, and we also give love to the original artist on the song. Everybody’s happy. Everybody eats. After all, it IS the most important meal of your day! So without further ado enjoy Installment #1!

TOAST IT AND POST IT INSTALLMENT #1 DAY AND NIGHT

Had to do this beat! Kid Cudi did his THING on this one. Obviously, the inspiration for Kanye’s 808’s and Heartbreaks that everyone knows and loves. Now you know who did it first. Kid Cudi comes to us representing Brooklyn, NY by way of Cleveland, Ohio. Home to Bone Thugs and Harmony. I say this to say Ohio (reference DJ HiTek..) is home to some pretty innovate sounds.

Your boy Cudi is no exception. Day and Night is a very creative and infectious beat and probably one of the top ride to songs of the year in my book. Kanye seems to think so.. Anyway, I’ll keep this one short because I know ya’ll been waiting for the ACTUAL TiPi. Ha! To find out more about the Kid check his webpage.

Mr. Flip - Body Like That

My South Carolina Folks have got to remember "Damn Right" that's a classic song in my neck of the woods. As I grow as a producer I want to work with the best artist in my state. I already have a pretty good resume' with some of the best around here, and this just got added to the pile. Mr. Flip!! This song came out good..hopefully in the future we'll be able to craft a song from start to finish instead of the "new school" way of working together where its all through email. Without further a due, I bring to you Mr. Flip - Body Like That produced by yours truly.

Sincerely, A Mad Black Beatmaker!

In the grand scheme of things there are way more important things for me to talk about, but hey...its my blog, and right now here is whats bothering me. Its 2009 and just when you think the music industry reaches a peak in its popularity, something happens and the fanfare and the race to the top becomes even more intense. One has to learn how to not fall behind the curve and to stay afloat each time a change occurs. The biggest thing that is happening now as far as urban music is concerned is the record companies wanting to invest the least amount of money possible and gain the biggest return. Labels aren't calling people because they are respected for their creativity or rapping style. They call because people were able to create a demand for their product and move units, along with packing venues to see them perform. Notice that I said that this is happening with urban music. Urban Music (Black Music) is the only genre where your artistry plays a very small role in your success. In the future we'll get there, but for right now, the labels are going to pay more attention to the latest trend/craze. I'm not mad at them for it...their job is to make money. I grew up being inspired by the stories of MC Hammer, Too Short, Master P, Cash Money, etc etc selling thousands and thousands of records out of the trunk of a car without help from any major label. That inspired the business mind in me. I also grew up loving the creativity and passion of countless artist. That inspired my artistry and the creative mind in me. I feel like I need to merge the two to be a successful musician and businessman.

Now lets take a break from all of this diplomacy.

I don't have time to work with folks that are to much of an "artist" to pass out flyers, send emails, and help promote music. I'm not talking about folks that just want to buy a beat from me. That's cool, that's what the money is for sometimes. I guess this message is for the folks that have known me for awhile, have worked with me in the past, and didn't do anything worth a damn with the music as far as representing themselves and the parties involved. I've been down the road 2 many times. There are 2 artist in particular who's work I will be leaking real soon. Its nothing personal. Both sets of music are from 2004, and I feel like if i don't do anything with them they'll never be herd. I'm working on too many projects to name right now, and it really is frustrating to speak with folks who want you to literally drop everything you're working on so they can get their "creative rocks off". Especially when you were ready and willing to work years earlier and you were ignored.

Well that's all I can think of to vent about now. I thank you for taking time out to read. In a nutshell there are times where you need to check your pride, and there are times to continue on with it.
